Earth Day 2018: 360˚ of sustainable beauty

Happy Earth Day!

What are your plans for making the earth a better place?

It’s interesting that Earth day is approaching and I happen to be working on joining forces with Toronto based Green Circle Salons in a sustainability movement to green up salons across North America. They collect and divert hair (used for oil spills!), color tubes, nail files and many other salon materials from landfill, all collected from a fleet of carbon offset vehicles and carbon offset couriers. They are doing some amazing things, like making recycling bins out of collected hair. Since inception in 2009 they have offset 209 tons of carbon!

About GCS:

Our mission is to make the North American salon industry sustainable by 2020. We are doing this in a way that is affordable, achievable and most importantly, impactful. We believe that over time — and with the help of guests and employees — small steps to transform each salon will make a green conversion possible and sustainable. We are all about keeping people, business & the planet beautiful. We are a movement for positive green change that has substance, style, and creative spirit. Together we work to understand the linkages between our actions and their consequences on the planet. We see value in sourcing locally and increasing efficiency, and we redirect, recycle, or repurpose materials once destined for landfill. We are committed to giving back 5% of our profits to work with local and international organizations to support programs that create positive social and environmental change.
